Who We Are Is the Loving

By Leslie Sann

The important thing is not to think much, but to love much.
—Saint Teresa of Ávila

Visiting family for the holidays — sister, nieces, joy, and expansion.
Both nieces newly engaged, excitement everywhere, the air full of possibility.
The future looks bright and wide open.
Joy moves through all of us — smiling, talking weddings, dresses, rings, bridesmaids, or none.

There’s a sweetness in watching the innocence of a life not yet lived — the dreams, the imagining — not yet knowing that Life will have its way with us.
None of us has lived the life we once pictured.
Life arrives with adversity, challenge, and disappointed expectations, not to defeat us but to fine-tune us into the brilliance and loving-kindness we truly are.

We’re not the wedding dress.
Not the venue.
Not the ring, the partner, the job title, or the car in the driveway.

We are the smile.
The sparkle in the eye.
The steadying hand on an arm.
We are the ones helping their 94-year-old grandmother down the stairs after Thanksgiving dinner — one grandaughter on each side, laughing in the cold night air.

We are the ones learning how to love each other even more.
Life wakes us up to that — to loving as genuine caring.

However your holidays were — and however they will be — may you look beneath the surface and meet the joy waiting to be revealed.

Blessings and Joy,

P.S. I will be facilitating a course, The Power of Surrender, beginning Thursday, January 22, 2026. Learn to live in joy regardless of outer circumstances. Click HERE for more info.
