Are YOU Creating YOUR Life?

by Leslie Sann

If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be. ~Maya Angelou

How many people do you see creating their lives by design rather than by default?

Look at actual people.

How many do you see who are creating and really enjoying their lives? Not those who are pretending on social media — not those who project the image of life enjoyment — but those who are actually creating their lives — really living.

Or do most of the people you observe live in reaction, fear, argument, avoidance, some version of trauma and drama?

Wonder about your own life. Where is your focus? Are you all-in with living, creating, exploring and experiencing joy in the process? Or are you more a fret/upset kinda gal or guy?

On a scale of 0 – 10, zero being you never, ever go negative and ten being that you are crazed with disturbance — where are you? This is just for you, so give yourself a break and tell yourself the truth.

Got it?

Now multiply that number by 10.

Pause and do this to receive value (or not, your choice).

Let’s say you were at a 5, that means 5 x 10 = 50.

What if that means that 50% of your creative energy is being siphoned off into negativity? Whoa. Really? That’s half.

Imagine what could you be doing, creating, exploring with all that energy. Hmmm, something to ponder.

When was the last time you recall having fun like young children do at play? An easeful sense of joy and adventure of living?

If not in a while, what’s up with that?

Some of us diminish our joy and stop creating because — well — we want to fit in. Since this planet is filled with countless unhappy, scared, dare I say — miserable people — do you really want to fit into all that?

I don’t.

I say misery has enough company, choose joy!

A few days ago I was turning left to leave the street I live on. I had to wait while this jeep careened down the road. It was one of those army-type jeeps with no door. Inside I saw a thin man behind the wheel with grey hair protruding from his ball cap, sporting sunglasses and an exuberant smile. He was having a blast enjoying the beautiful day.

I turned left and followed him as I was going in the same direction. I wondered about the many points of view people would have of him. I thought of my mother who would be critical of his wild hair. I imagined my aunt who would be of the opinion this man was too old to be having fun in a jeep. I saw my dental hygienist fretting about the poor guy falling out in the middle of a left turn.

I, on the other hand, was lifted by his joy.

As I approached the end of the street where we both were to turn, I saw that the back of his vehicle had words on the spare tire:

ONE LIFE. LIVE IT.

Are you living your life? Are you choosing to be amongst the folks who are creating their lives? (Have you thought of anyone yet?) In doing so you will experience the joyful fulfillment that comes when you are living by design!
