Start Seeing Motorcycles Now
by Leslie Sann
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
~ Marcel Proust
On the way to my Chicago office that day I saw the message again. It was on one of those giant lighted signs that hang over the highway. Clearly there is a campaign. Y E A !
Most people don’t see motorcycles because they don’t take up much visual space. The sign is asking drivers to expand their field of attention so that it now includes seeing motorcycles. How great is that! Since I saw the sign I noticed three motorcycles as I drove to town.
Learning to give positive direction is essential for success in life. If you want your spouse to do something they’re not doing, tell them what you want instead of complaining about what you don’t want. Maybe they never noticed the garbage smells, or that they park in the garage so you don’t have room to walk around the car. If it wasn’t their concern they probably didn’t notice. But if it bothers you then ask them for what you want so they can become aware and respond to your request. (And then of course, appreciate them for caring enough to give to you!) It’s hard to give somebody something when your not told what it is.
Back to the sign… when you ask me to start seeing something my willingness is provoked. I’m willing to see motorcycles… I don’t want to hurt anybody… I want to be able to sleep at night because I was aware of other cars and MOTORCYCLES and made it home safely.
Great idea… Happy to… I’ll start seeing motorcycles… Thanks for asking.
I encourage you, as I encourage myself, to practice giving positive direction. Not only to the people who you relate to on a daily basis but also to yourself.
So, start seeing motorcycles, the weather is nice and people are out having fun … and some of them are on motorcycles!
Blessings and Love,
